Room 14 Newsletter
Teacher: Mr Leadbetter
28 February 2016

Dear Parents

My name is John Leadbetter and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I have been at Parkview for 14 years and have one of my children at the school, Richard 9. The other son Michael is now at High School this year.

I hope you had a fantastic holiday with your children.  The children have all come to school with smiles on their faces and are eager to get into the years work. I spent the holidays at Mount Maunganui with my 2 boys and have found they can never get enough of fishing. My boys can tell many a story of the monsters that got away.

Every teacher has their own area of interest and in case your children have not told you mine is sport and physical activity. I believe that children who are active learn better. We will be participating in a range of sport, endurance and team building activities this year, all great fun.

The other focus in the class is Oral language. The child who is clear, concise and articulate is a young leader in the making.

General Comments

Noise Levels
In Room 13 we try to maintain a low noise level, research shows the quieter the room the better the students perform in all areas. We will be  expecting high standards in the classroom and throughout the school.

Homework
Homework will be given out at the beginning of the term. They will have until the the end of the term to complete it. The home work will consist of spelling words, mathematics and some nightly reading. Please parents, do not stress about homework. I realise the busy lives we all lead. Children will get points and certificates for completion of homework, they will not be penalised if they fail to complete it. I will be available to any child before school to help them with their homework.

Water bottles
I try to encourage the children to keep a water bottle on their desk so that they stay hydrated throughout the day so could you please ensure they have one.

Camp
We have camp for Rooms 14, 15, 16 and the year 5 children from Room 10. This year the camp will be at  Waipara during week 11 of Term 1. More details will follow throughout the term.

Any Problems or concerns.
My job as a teacher is to look after the emotional wellbeing of your child so if they have anything upsetting or annoying them please let me know straight away. The sooner we resolve issues the sooner your child can focus on their learning.

Yours Sincerely
John Leadbetter
